The king's still the king—but is he the king of sales?

Kendrick Lamar is headed for another No. 1 debut with DAMN.—his third in a row. Industry forecasters currently have its first week sales pegged at 475,000 album equivalent units, as Billboard reports. It would follow his previous chart-toppers untitled unmastered. (debuted last year with 178,000 album equivalent units) and To Pimp a Butterfly (363,000 units in its first week).

While DAMN. might have reaffirmed Kung Fu Kenny's place as the king of rap, he's not quite the king of sales. That honor belongs to Drake, whose recent playlist More Life had the biggest single sales week of 2017 with 505,000 album equivalent units. Even pitted against J. Cole's most recent effort, Kendrick falls a hair short—if the projection holds, he won't match the first week sales of 4 Your Eyez Only, which debuted last December with 492,000 units.
